A few days ago the Gumball 3000 race participants drove through Estonia on their way towards Monaco. Unfortunately we didn’t see all of the cars since around 20 of them lost their licenses in Finland and some incidents had happened even before. The Estonian police wasn’t too nice with them, either – several guys were arrested for excessive speeding. In my opinion the speeds weren’t THAT bad, just around 140-170 km/h in 70 or 90 km/h zone :) A Ferrari 458 Italia lost the grip in the rain somewhere near Riga (Latvia) and the car was totaled.
Since I didn’t arrive for the right time and didn’t acquire a pass beforehand to take photos fo the cars, I just managed to capture a few and I also wanted to show you the amount of people gathered in our Old Town to see the cars. I think many of them were there to see David Hasselhoff!
The season opening cruise of American Cars in Estonia took place in Tallinn on the 4th of May. It was an awesome event since the amount of cars was a lot more than last year and the whole event was arranged very well. We began the cruise from a large parking lot at Ülemiste and cruised through the city finally reaching Rocca Al Mare parking lot. Since the Corvette was totally out of service then, we decided to take my girlfriend’s K5 Blazer and we got several compliments on that truck. As always, we stayed together most of the time with the Corvette Club of Estonia and used the club flag on our truck.
On the 6th of October we had the last American car cruise here in Estonia. The weather was already getting quite bad, the nights were cold and it was raining all the time. I don’t even want to talk about what we have today – a week ago we had our first snow and terrible driving conditions, but now it has all melted and we are left with continuous rainfalls and temperatures around 0…+5 deg Celsius. But enjoy the photos!
Here is our gallery of this month’s American car cruise in Tallinn. We finished my Corvette works last minute before going to the cruise and then we found that the waterneck on the intake was leaking like crazy. What a turndown! I decided to take the car back to the garage and we went with my friend’s Buick Skylark instead. Isn’t it a nice car? Well anyway, the Corvette was fixed the same night and now the leak is gone.
We ofcourse participated at the annual American Beauty Car Show in Haapsalu, Estonia and we took it full power this time. Since me and a few other guys are now running the official Corvette Club of Estonia, we set up two tents with three Vettes under them, a TV screen with GoPro on board camera footage and I was also doing stickers sales there under my company Red Rock Decals. The event was very successful for all of us. Unfortunately it was the first year in the event’s history when weather still somewhat ruined it – we got several heavy thunderstorm rainfalls and strong winds. The drag race was also almost cancelled but I had some great weather information from the weather radars we use at work and therefore I said to the staff with confidence that the rain will stop in 30 minutes. And it did :) It was the first time for me to try my Vette on the track. Since the engine build is still underway and I’m estimating around 270-300 HP at the moment from this engine, I got 15.27 secs for quarter mile which is not good but satisfactory for me considering the remarkable wheel slip on take-off and bad gear shifts.
Anyway, below is the gallery of the event! Photos taken by my girlfriend Merlin.
